Mission
My mission is to help educators, families, school safety professionals, and educational leaders strengthen the relationships, adult practices, and coordinated systems that support safer, more connected school communities. Every resource here is designed to help adults apply evidence informed practices, not to promise outcomes no practice can guarantee.
Every interaction is an intervention.
Every intervention is an opportunity.
Every opportunity begins with connection.
About Dr. Jessica Rose Mathy
I'm Dr. Jessica Rose Mathy, an educator, researcher, and school systems leader from California. I've been a Spanish teacher, a WASC coordinator, a restorative circles facilitator, an assistant principal of special programs, and a district MTSS coordinator.
As MTSS district coordinator, I led a districtwide PBIS initiative across 11 schools: seven elementary schools, two junior highs, one comprehensive high school, and one alternative education high school, built with our county office of education. Every school earned California PBIS recognition, from Bronze to Gold, and the structure kept running after the launch ended.
In September 2025, I came full circle and went back to the classroom on purpose. I wanted to test systems work against the reality of a full class on a Tuesday afternoon. I also knew it was the only way I could finish my doctorate while raising two young children and still having a life at home. I hold an Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership, and my research focuses on how teachers experience professional learning and social emotional learning. Today I bring all of it together through RoseThread Learning, the company behind my speaking, consulting, and products.
Work with me
RoseThread Learning is the company behind my work. Whether you need a keynote, a partner for MTSS implementation, or tools for your classrooms, it all comes from the same belief: systems work best when they are built with the people they are meant to support.
Social emotional learning built into the content teachers already teach
Teachers choose one 20 minute activity a week, off screen and ready to use, so social emotional learning becomes intentional instead of accidental. Every activity connects to CASEL and to the content standards of the course, includes supports for English learners and students receiving special education services, and plugs into the curriculum your school already uses. Starting with Spanish and Integrated Math for grades 9 to 12, with English, science, and history and social science to follow.
MTSS implementation support for site and district teams
Most districts say they do MTSS. Far fewer have site teams who can actually run it: data meetings that drift, Tier 2 supports that vary by campus, and new leaders who inherit systems nobody trained them on. TierReady starts with a strong Tier 1 and gives your teams the structure, tools, and coaching to make tiered supports work, and keep working.

Signature practice
A Daily Practice for Better Human Connection.
Not another initiative. Not another program to roll out. The SSCC Practice™ is four simple reminders you can start using today and return to until they become habit: a practical response strategy for the moments that matter most, at school and beyond.
Steady, Scan, Connect, Close help you pause and respond with intention instead of reacting emotionally. Developed by Jessica Rose Mathy, Ed.D., it is an evidence informed response strategy grounded in doctoral research, social emotional learning literature, and years of work with schools.

Current status
The SSCC Practice™ is an evidence informed practice for intentional adult decision making during everyday student interactions. Its component principles are grounded in established research on school connectedness, adult social emotional competence, restorative practice, and implementation science.
The specific four part sequence has not yet been established as an effective intervention. That distinction matters, and I repeat it consistently. The practice is currently undergoing systematic evaluation.
Research status: Existing research supports the principles that inform the practice; the SSCC sequence itself is not yet evidence based as a complete intervention.

What I believe
Physical safety and emotional safety are not competing priorities. Together, they form the foundation of a safe and supportive school.

I write and speak in public because the problem, how adults are developed to handle the moments that shape school safety, deserves an accessible, honest, and ongoing conversation. Public engagement can invite collaborators and practitioner critique. It does not replace IRB review, independent measurement, or empirical evaluation. I try to be precise about which is which.
